sanvigilio.it ; Punta San Vigilio; d €270-375, ste €440-890; ) , where you can dine eleg-
antly overlooking the water from the restaurant's open-sided loggia.
Bardolino
More than 70 vineyards and wine cellars (many within DOC and even DOCG boundaries)
grace the gentle hills that roll east from Bardolino on the east shore of Garda. They pro-
duce an impressive array of pink Chiaretto, ruby Classico, dry Superiore and young Nov-
ello.
One of the most atmospheric ways to savour their flavours is a tutored tasting at Guerri-
eri Rizzardi ( 045 721 00 28; www.guerrieri-rizzardi.com ; Via Verdi 4; tastings €15; 5pm Wed
May-Oct) . After a tour of wine cellars full of cobweb-laced bottles, relaxed tastings take
place in the walled kitchen garden. Alternatively, settle in for a meal of local delicacies
accompanied by wines, recommended by the sommelier-owner of Il Giardino delle Esperidi (
045 621 04 77; Via Goffredo Mameli 1; meals €35-50;
7-10pm Wed-Fri & Mon, noon-2.30pm &
7-10pm Sat & Sun) .
Bardolino is at its most Bacchic during the Festa dell'Uva e del Vino in early October,
when the town's waterfront fills with food and wine stands. The tourist office ( 045 721 00
78; www.tourism.verona.it ; Piazzale Aldo Moro; 9am-1pm & 2-6pm Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm Sun Sep-
May, 9am-7pm late-Jun-Aug) stocks a map of producers on the Bardolino Strada del Vino
( www.stradadelbardolino.com ) .
