Triangolo Lariano
The mountainous territory between Como and Lecco in the south and Bellagio in the
north is called the Triangolo Lariano, or the Lario Triangle. Lakeside villages Torno , Car-
eno and Lezzeno line the Como-Bellagio road, and hiking trails abound.
The classic trail is known as the Dorsale (Ridge) and zigzags for 31km across the interi-
or of the 'triangle' from the Brunate funicular station in Como to Bellagio. The standard
trail, which follows old mule tracks, takes about 12 hours and is usually done in two
stages. A more challenging route is the Dorsale Creste trail, which follows a series of moun-
tain crests. Several rifugi (mountain huts), including the alpine chalet Agriturismo Munt de
Volt ( 031 91 88 98; www.muntdevolt.altervista.org ; Via Monti di Là 3, Pian del Tivano; r per person
€20) , can be found along the way at Pian del Tivano .
Another option is to walk the 32km Strada Regia (Royal Way), a partly stone-paved path
that links Como to Bellagio by way of Torno and Lezzeno. The easiest stretch connects
Torno and Pognana Lario (about five hours). Ask at the Como tourist office for the fine
Carta dei Sentieri (Trail Map, 1:25,000).
