TOP OF CHAPTER
Lago di Como
Set in the shadow of the snow-covered Rhaetian Alps and hemmed in on both sides by
steep, wooded hills, Lago di Como (also known as Lake Lario) is the most spectacular and
least visited of the three major lakes. Shaped like an upside-down letter Y, its winding
shoreline is scattered with villages, including delightful Bellagio, which sits at the centre
of the two southern branches on a small promontory. Where the southern and western
shores converge is the lake's main town, Como.
In May and June, watch out for musical concerts at some of Lago di Como's finest vil-
las as part of the Lake Como Festival ( www.lakecomofestival.com ) .
