In-Depth Information
Expo 2015
In 1851 the world's first Expo took place in London, exhibiting the 'Works of Industry of
All Nations'. It featured 25 countries and from the profits emerged the Victoria & Albert
Museum, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum. With 128 countries
already signed up, Milan is looking forward to hosting one of the biggest Expos yet, start-
ing on 1 May 2015 ( www.expo2015.org ). Costing a cool €13.5 billion; the six-month
shindig is estimated, by Bocconi University, to achieve €25 billion in investment and cre-
ate more than 200,000 jobs. It's a bold vision and one that the precarious Italian govern-
ment is counting on to lift the country out of its economic doldrums. If you plan on visit-
ing the city during the event (May to October 2015); book everything well in advance as
there'll be 20 million other people looking to do the same.
