Cattedrale di San Lorenzo
(Piazza Duomo) There's been a cathedral here since the 12th century, though the current
terracotta-brick affair is mostly a result of an almost complete neo-Gothic 19th-century
makeover. The intricate choir stalls date from 1512.

a peek for those keen to sober up between wine-tasting excursions, the city museum was
founded in 1887. It has archaeological and natural history sections.

themselves away from all-day wine-tasting or ridiculously elongated lunches, head to this
converted church turned cultural center for concerts (choir and chamber music), art expos
or a hike up 134 steps to the 36m belltower (€1). In the basement, 2nd-century archaeolo-
gical remains from the vanquished Roman Empire have been uncovered.

ises a wide variety of tours and courses unique to the Alba region and its gastronomy.
Truffle hunting can be arranged seasonally for white (September to December) or black
(May to September) truffles for €80 per person. Alternatively, you can tour a hazel-nut
farm for €30 year-round, or take part in a four-hour cooking course for €130.
There are various wine-themed excursions, including a guided tour of a Barolo winery
for €55. If your appetite is sated, join 'Lens on the Langhe', a tour with a professional
photographer (€60 to €90). All tours can be booked up to a day in advance at Alba's tour-
ist office.
