Bar Gelateria Corso
(Corso Nizza 16; snacks €2-5;
CAFE, GELATO
7am-1am Thu-Tue) Go-to cafe for gelato, gossip and cups of
ultra-thick hot chocolate.
Osteria della Chiocciola
( 0171 6 62 77; Via Fossano 1; meals €28-33; 12.30-11pm Mon-Sat) The lack of outside
signage reflects an inner confidence at Chiocciola's, where seasoned cooks perform small
miracles. Although the restaurant is Slow Food affiliated, the time-poor can still stop by
for a glass of wine with cheese and salami on the ground floor. Upstairs, in a buttercup
dining room, dawdlers can choose from the handwritten menu's alchemy of flavours.
GASTRONOMIC €€
Delle Antiche Contrade
( 0171 48 04 88; www.antichecontrade.it ; Via Savigliano 11; meals €60; lunch Tue-Sun, dinner Tue-
Sat) This former 17th-century postal station is the culinary workshop of Ligurian chef
Luigi Taglienti, who melds the fish of his home region with the meat and pasta of his ad-
opted one. The result: a Michelin star. Those with bottomless wallets can bag a personal
table overlooking the kitchen action for €130 per head.
