In-Depth Information
(admission €1.50; 9am-1pm & 4-7pm Feb-Jul, Sep & Oct, to 1pm Aug) Birdlife and local
flora can be seen from a nature observation and bird-watching centre on a promontory of
land just east of Riomaggiore. The building was a former naval installation in WWII,
known as La Batteria Racchia. Today there's a small bar and panels explaining the sur-
rounding flora.
The Torre is reachable via a trail that starts just west of Fossola Beach.
Fossola Beach
This small pebbly beach is immediately southeast of Riomaggiore marina. It's rugged but
secluded. Swimmers should be wary of rocks and currents.

the five villages, the Zorza is a little sleepier than your average big-town affair. The recep-

middle-ranking rooms are spread across the sinuous 17th-century house of a former wine-
