Civitavecchia
POP 51,260
There's no compelling reason to come to Civitavecchia, other than to take a ferry to
Sardinia, though you could make a stop long enough to eat at one of its good fish restaur-
ants. The port is about a 700m walk from the train station - exit, turn right into Viale
Garibaldi and follow along the seafront.
For tasty seafood try Ristorante La Bomboniera ( 0766 2 57 44; www.labomboniera.info ;
Corso Marconi 50; meals €40-45; Tue-Sun) near the port. Otherwise, there are several decent
eateries on Piazza Aurelio Saffi.
Getting There & Away
Ferries sail year-round from Civitavecchia to Sardinia ( Click here ) and Sicily ( Click here ) .
To get to Civitavecchia from Rome, Cotral buses leave from outside Cornelia metro sta-
tion (€3.90, 1½ hours, hourly). Alternatively, slow regional trains run regularly from
Stazione Termini (€5, 1¼ hours), with fewer services on Sunday. Faster Intercity (€10.50)
and Frecciabianca (€15) services take 45 to 50 minutes.
