Driving into central Rome is a challenge, involving traffic restrictions, one-way systems, a
shortage of street parking and aggressive drivers.
Rome is circled by the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) to which all autostradas (mo-
torways) connect, including the main A1 north-south artery (the Autostrada del Sole) and
the A12, which connects Rome to Civitavecchia and Fiumicino Airport.
