a small, unpretentious food store near Piazza del Parlamento. But shop here and you're making a
small but concrete contribution to the fight against the mafia. All the gastro goodies on sale, including
organic olive oils, pastas, honeys and wine, are produced on land confiscated from organised crime
outfits. The shop is part of a countrywide chain called
I Sapori e I Saperi della Legalità
(The Taste
and Awareness of Legality), which distributes food produced on ex-mafia terrain.

Climb the well-worn stairs to this
workshop, choose from the softest leathers, and you will shortly be the proud owner of a
handmade, designer-style bag, wallet, belt or briefcase. You can even take a design with
you for them to reproduce. Bags cost €200 to €250 and take around a week to make.
Purchases can be posted overseas, however it's best to pick them up, as postage can be un-
reliable.
