SUMMER NIGHTS IN ROME
From mid-June to mid-September, most of the city's clubs and music joints close, with some moving
to Fregene or Ostia for a summer of beachfront dancing. However, the Estate Romana ( Click here )
festival supplies ample after-dark entertainment. Concerts, exhibitions, theatrical performances and
open-air cinema are staged across town, while the city's nightlife goes alfresco down by the Tiber for
the summer-long Lungo il Tevere ( Click here ) festival.
Classical Music
An abundance of spectacular settings makes Rome a superb place to catch a classical mu-
sic concert. The city's cultural and musical hub is the Auditorium Parco della Musica, but
free concerts are often held in churches, especially at Easter, Christmas and New Year.
Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis and the programs are generally ex-
cellent. Check newspapers and listings for programs.
