inviting Le Stanze di Orazio is a small boutique B&B-style set-up just off Prati's main
shopping strip. Three of the five bright, delicately decorated rooms - think soothing
whites with lilac and lime-green accents - face onto the street, but effective sound-proof-
ing cuts out most of the noise.

Within easy walking distance of St Peter's, San Pi-
etrino is an excellent budget choice. Its cosy rooms are characterful and prettily decorated
with terracotta tiled floors and the occasional statue. There's no breakfast but a drinks ma-
chine can supply emergency coffee.

This tranquil, palm-shaded convent is ideally positioned for the Vatican
Museums. The resident nuns keep everything shipshape and the 21 small, sunny rooms
are clean as a pin, if slightly institutional in feel. No breakfast.

Popular with young travellers, this is a bright budget hotel with smart, vibrantly col-
oured rooms spread over three floors (no lift, though). There are also cheaper rooms with
shared bathrooms and, from June to August, dorms (€12 to €35 per person) for guests un-
der 38.
