Tritons are 19th-century copies. The 19th-century Fontana del Nettuno OFFLINE MAP
GOOGLE MAP at the northern end depicts Neptune fighting with a sea monster, surrounded
by sea nymphs.
The piazza's largest building is the 17th-century Palazzo Pamphilj OFFLINE MAP

baroque Palazzo Braschi houses the Museo di Roma's eclectic collection of paintings,
photographs, etchings, clothes and furniture, charting the history of Rome from the
Middle Ages to the early 20th century. But as striking as the collection are the palazzo's
beautiful frescoed halls, including the extravagant Sala Cinese and the Egyptian-themed
Sala Egiziana.

( Corso Vittorio Emanuele II) Noisy, colourful 'Il Campo' is a major focus of Roman life:
by day it hosts a much-loved market, while at night it morphs into a raucous open-air pub.
Towering over the square is a sinister statue of Giordano Bruno, a philosopher monk who
was burned at the stake for heresy in 1600.

Corso Vittorio Emanuele II) One of Rome's greatest Renaissance palazzi , Palazzo Farnese
was started in 1514 by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, continued by Michelangelo, and
finished by Giacomo della Porta. Nowadays, it's home to the French Embassy, and open
only to visitors who've booked a guided tour - see the website for details. Visits, for
which you'll need to book at least a week in advance, take in the Galleria dei Caracci,
home to a cycle of frescoes by Annibale Carracci that are said to rival those of the Sistine
Chapel.
