TRENINO VERDE
If you're not in a rush, take a slow, nostalgic ride through Sardinia's rugged interior on the narrow-
gauge

) . There are four routes: Man-
das-Arbatax (5¼ hours, one-way/return €20/28), Mandas-Isili-Sorgono (3½ hours, one-way/return
€15.50/21.50), Macomer-Bosa (two hours, one-way/return €11.50/16.50) and Sassari-Tempo-Palau
(4¼ hours, one-way/return €20/28). Of these, the twisting Mandas-Arbatax line is particularly spec-
tacular, crossing the remote highlands of the Parco Nazionale del Golfo di Orosei e del Gennargentu.
From the metro station on Piazza Repubblica in Cagliari, a metro runs to Monserrato where you can
connect with trains for Mandas. The Trenino Verde runs between mid-June and early September.
