One of southern Europe's
most compelling archaeological sites, the 1300-hectare Parco Valle dei Templi encom-
passes the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas. The highlight is the stunning Tempio della
Concordia, one of the best-preserved Greek temples in existence and one of a series built
on a ridge to act as beacons for homecoming sailors.
Three kilometres south of Agrigento, the park is divided into two distinct zones, separ-
ated by the main SS118 road. There are two ticket offices, one at the park's eastern edge
and another at Piazza Alexander Hardcastle between the eastern and western zones. The
car park is by the eastern entrance.
