The town's only hostel is open year-round and occupies a house with a
roof terrace commanding panoramic sea views. It's small (only 23 beds in three dorms
and one private room) and facilities are basic, but manager Francesco is a helpful and
friendly guy, beds are comfortable and there's a communal kitchen. No breakfast.

Built in 1902, the jaw-droppingly pretty Villa Belvedere was one
of the original grand hotels, well-positioned with fabulous views and luxuriant gardens,
which are a particular highlight. There is also a swimming pool with a 100-year-old palm
tree rising from a small island in the middle.

Surrounded by shady terraced gardens and with views of Mt Etna, the rose-pink Villa
Schuler has been run by the same family for over a century (longer than any other Taorm-
ina hotel) and preserves a homely atmosphere. A lovely breakfast is served on the panor-
amic terrace.

Every detail is perfect in this painstakingly restored former music school, recently conver-
ted to a luxurious B&B on a back alley just above Corso Umberto. Vintage furniture and
fixtures, handcrafted woodwork, fine homespun sheets and modern bathrooms all contrib-
ute to the elegant feel; the spacious rooftop terrace is just icing on the cake.
