In-Depth Information
( 090 981 10 04; www.giardinosulmare.it ; Via Maddalena 65; d €80-230; Apr-Oct; ) This
family-run hotel's top attraction is its superb seaside location, a few blocks south of Mar-
ina Corta. The pool terrace on the cliff edge is fabulous, but if you prefer to swim in the
sea there's also direct access to a rocky platform below. Most rooms have terraces and
high ceilings; they're a bit tired and bland otherwise.
Eating & Drinking
Fish abound in the waters of the archipelago and include tuna, mullet, cuttlefish and sole,
all of which end up on local menus. Try pasta all'eoliana, a simple blend of the island's
excellent capers with olives, olive oil, anchovies, tomatoes and basil.
Bars are concentrated along Corso Vittorio Emanuele and down by Marina Corta. In
peak season everything stays open into the wee hours.
Le Macine
( 090 982 23 87; www.lemacine.org ; Via Stradale 9, Pianoconte; meals €27-36; 12.30-3pm &
7-10pm daily May-Sep, Sat & Sun Oct-Apr) This country restaurant in Pianoconte, 4.5km from
Lipari Town, comes into its own in summer, when meals are served on the terrace. Sea-
food and fresh vegetables star in dishes such as swordfish cakes with artichokes, shrimp-
filled ravioli or fish in ghiotta sauce (with olive oil, capers, tomatoes, garlic and basil).
Reservations are advised, as is the free shuttle service.
