The forests of the Carnic and Giulian Alps are wild and verdant, the Laghi di Fusine are
still populated by lynx and deer and the Forni di Sopra are spread thick with wild Alpine
flowers.
Culinary Crossroad
Friuli's cuisine incorporates smoked trout and DOC prosciutto from San Daniele, spicy bri-
oche, gamey Mittel dishes and traditional sauerkraut. There's also some very exciting wine
coming out of the Carso and the Colli Orientali.
