;
Via Cesare Battisti 3; meals €30-35; dinner Wed-Sat & Mon,
lunch & dinner Sun)
Nestling in the vaulted 16th-century Palazzo Guiderocchi, this refined
restaurant is one of the top tables in town. Artfully presented specialities play up seasonal,
regional flavours: a pappardelle with porcini and winter truffles might prelude a prefectly
layered
millefeuille
of veal and aubergine. The five-course degustation menu is a respect-
able €30.
TRADITIONAL ITALIAN
€€
Caffè Meletti
(Piazza del Popolo 20; 7.30am-11pm Tue-Sun)
From the elegant shade of the portico you can
sip a coffee or a glass of the famous homemade
anisette
with
olive all'ascolana
as you
gaze onto the piazza. The cafe, founded in 1904, was once a popular haunt of Ernest Hem-
ingway and Jean-Paul Sartre.
