Siena Mobilità services depart Piazza della Repubblica for Siena (€6.60, 1½ hours, seven
daily) and Etruria Mobilità buses for Sansepolcro (€4.10, one hour, frequent on weekdays,
fewer services on weekends) and Cortona (€3.50, one hour, frequent).
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
To drive here from Florence, take the A1; the SS73 heads west to Siena. There is car park-
ing (some spaces free, some €0.70/5 per hour/day) at Via Pietri, from where a
scala mo-
bile
takes you up to Piazza del Duomo. Parking at the train station costs €1.50 per hour.
TRAIN
Arezzo is on the Florence-Rome train line, and there are frequent services to Florence
(Regionale €7.80, 1½ hours) and Rome (Intercity €19 to €25, two hours). There are also
hourly regional services to Cortona (€3.30, 20 minutes).

Art isn't the only reason to come here, though. The historical centre ('Il Borgo') is full
of handsome Renaissance churches and
palazzi
, and there are a number of good restaur-
ants to choose from.
On the second Sunday of September, the town hosts the
Palio della Ballestra
, a crossbow
tournament between local archers and rivals from the nearby Umbrian town of Gubbio.
Contestants and the crowd dress in medieval costumes, and a great time is had by all.
