FLORA AND FAUNA
Over 3600 species of plants grow in Armenia 400 of which are extremely rare and more
than 180 are local. Over 500 species of vertebrates live in the territory of the country among
which are such big mammals as the bear, panther, wolf, mouflon and boar. Unfortunately
all these species are on the brink of extinction but thanks to some reserves, among which is
also Khosrov Nature Reserve, undertake serious measures to preserve the existing species,
especially the rare Caucasian Panther.
In Armenia there are 346 species of birds such as the lammergeyer, pink flamingo and
Eurasian oriole and 43 species of reptile.
