Attitudes to homosexuality are progressive. Same-sex partnerships are recognised (al-
though gay couples are not permitted to adopt children or have fertility treatment). The age
of consent for gay sex is the same as for heterosexuals, 16 years.
Major cities have gay and lesbian bars, and pride marches are held in Geneva (early
