In-Depth Information
are currently all the rage in Switzerland. Some of our favourites include those in Mürren
for scenery and Kandersteg for more of a challenge.
Via Ferrata ( www.viaferrata.org ) provides maps and routes graded according to difficulty.
Rafting & Hydrospeeding
In summer, the raging Saane, Rhine, Inn and Rhône rivers create a dramatic backdrop for
rafting and hydrospeeding (surfing rapids solo on a glorified bodyboard). Memorable
splashes include the thundering Vorderrhein through the limestone Ruinaulta gorge and
rivers near Interlaken.
Swissraft ( www.swissraft.ch ) has bases all over the country. Expect to pay around Sfr110
for a half-day rafting tour and Sfr140 for hydrospeeding, including transport and equip-
ment.
Kayaking & Canoeing
Lazy summer afternoons are best spent absorbing the slow, natural rhythm of Switzer-
land's crystal-clear lakes and rivers (for instance, Lake Constance and fjord-like Lake
Uri).
See http://kanuland.myswitzerland.com for routes and paddle-friendly accommodation
tips. A half-day canoeing tour will set you back between Sfr85 and Sfr120. Tourist offices
can provide details on local outfits.
