Winter resorts go to great trouble to provide family-friendly plans and activities.
Everything from lessons to special non-adult areas are near-universal and programs are
varied by ages, so the rebellious young teen need be nowhere near their seven-year-old
sibling. A trip to one of the best snowboarding destinations on the planet is rarely going to
disappoint.
In summer, adventure-sports companies often have programs just for kids and most
have programs designed for the entire family. You can go hike with goats, walk a St Bern-
ard, go on a GPS hiking treasure hunt, spot a marmot, swing like mad on ropes and much,
much more.
Need to Know
» Car Seats Switzerland has the toughest child car-seat rules in the world: children age 12 years or under 150cm
in height must use car seats or booster seats. Car hire/rental firms charge around Sfr50 for these.
» Changing facilities Uncommon in traditional establishments; only really found in modern, major facilities.
» Cots Usually available at all accommodation, except perhaps a remote mountain hut.
» Health As you would do at home.
» Highchairs Usually available.
» Kids' menus At many restaurants.
» Nappies (diapers) Readily available.
» Strollers Larger resorts may have them.
» Transport Myriad family passes and kids' discounts available.

Family train travel is good value. Kids under six
years old travel for free with Swiss Railways
( www.rail.ch ) and those aged six to 16 years revel
in free unlimited rail travel with its annual Juni-
or Card (Sfr30) or - should it be grandparents
