Murten
Once upon a time villages across Europe were encircled by walls to keep out marauding
bands looking to loot, pillage and worse. Almost every town tore down its walls by the
19th century with very few exceptions. An easy day trip from Bern, Murten ( Click here )
is just such a town. Its medieval walls still encircle its handful of streets and you can romp
from one tower to the next, imagining the night watch on guard for invaders. It's the perfect
castle fantasy.
