If You Like... Villages

If you like the beautiful ancient town of Müstair ( Click here ), you'll love these little Swiss villages with their time-
less charms:

1 GUARDA
With its twisting cobbled streets and hobbitlike houses in candy shades, Guarda has
storybook appeal. Six kilometres east of Susch, Guarda is a 30-minute uphill hike from
its valley-floor train station, or you can take the hourly postal bus (Sfr3).

2 MAIENFELD
Dominated by a colourfully frescoed Rathaus (town hall) and haughty church, it's
worth hanging out for the local cuisine and wine from the surrounding vineyards.
Catch a train from Chur (Sfr7.80, 15 minutes).

3 MORCOTE
With its narrow cobbled lanes and endless nooks and crannies, this peaceful former
fishing village on Lake Lugano clusters at the foot of Monte Abostora. Narrow steps
lead 15 minutes uphill to Chiesa di Santa Maria del Sasso, which commands dazzling
lake views. Get here on a postal bus from Lugano.
