Pontresina & Around
POP 2000 / ELEV 1800M
At the mouth of the Val Bernina and licked by the ice-white tongue of Morteratsch Glaci-
er, Pontresina is a low-key alternative to St Moritz. Check out the pentagonal Moorish
tower and the Santa Maria Chapel, with frescos dating from the 13th and 15th centuries.
Pontresina's own mountain, Piz Languard (3262m), is well suited to families and
novice skiers. Use the resort as a base to explore slopes further down the valley at Piz
Lagalb (2959m) and Diavolezza (2973m), with its phenomenal 10km glacier descent. In
summer, it's worth taking the cable cars to either for views. The walk from Diavolezza to
Morteratsch affords striking glacier close-ups.
