In-Depth Information
( www.laax.com ) A snowboarding mecca, Laax boasts both Europe's smallest and largest
half-pipe, excellent freestyle parks and many off-piste opportunities. Skiers are equally
content to bash 220km of slopes at several interlinked resorts. Slaloming downhill,
you'll probably spy the unfortunately named Crap da Flem ( crap means 'peak' in Ro-
mansch). Laax is also a hotspot for mountain biking. Postal buses make the 20km run
from Chur in the east.
3 AROSA
( www.arosa.ch ) Beginner and intermediate skiers enjoy 70km of red and blue runs, rising
as high as Weisshorn at 2653m. Big air fans should check out the half-pipe and fun
park. Reach Arosa from Chur: take the hourly narrow-gauge train (Sfr14.20, one hour).
It's a lovely, winding journey.
