has an extraordinary rococo library that is a top Un-
esco site, a zany red square to chill in and taverns in half-timbered houses - all rooted in a
deeply Germanic, rural world. As a bonus it has a fine Alps setting that gives you a
panoply of peaks from which to choose, either for mere gazing or surmounting, or some
sort of hike in between. At night you can get cosy in a traditional Swiss restaurant and let
the cheese work its magic.
