After 30 minutes by train from Lugano, you get to Bellinzona ( Click here ) with its
three medieval castles . If possible, travel here on Saturday morning when the colour-
ful food market takes place, people speak dialect and farmers sell their products from
the valleys. Enjoy the local atmosphere and the market menu (restaurants offer low-
priced menus on Saturdays that feature food made with seasonal local products), then
discover bissolo , a typical chocolate of Bellinzona (chestnut paste covered with
chocolate) that is sold in two local bakeries.
5 TRAIN TO CASLANO
Take the little orange train in front of Lugano's train station to the nearby village of
Caslano . Here you'll find local handicrafts. Afterwards, you can go trekking around
Monte Caslano or swim in the lake.
