VERKEHRSHAUS
( www.verkehrshaus.ch ; Lidostrasse 5; adult/child Sfr28/14, incl cinema Sfr38/24; 10am-6pm Apr-Oct,
to 5pm Nov-Mar) The fascinating interactive Transport Museum is quite deservedly Switzer-
land's most popular museum, and is a great kid-pleaser. Alongside space rockets, steam
locomotives, flying bicycles and dugout canoes are hands-on activities such as flight sim-
ulators, broadcasting studios and even bikes to ride. Take bus 6, 8 or 24 to the Verkehr-
shaus stop.

KULTUR UND KONGRESSZENTRUM
Offline map Google map
(Arts & Congress Centre; www.kkl-luzern.ch ; Europaplatz) French architect Jean Nouvel's water-
front Kultur und Kongresszentrum (KKL) is a postmodern jawdropper in an otherwise
historic city. But don't think a strikingly handsome face implies a superficial soul: the
main concert hall's acoustics are as close to perfect as humankind has ever known, ac-
cording to many musicians and conductors who have performed here.

Most hotels offer winter discounts - sometimes up to one-third off, but you'll be lucky to
get a bed (or any kip for that matter) at Fasnacht, so book well ahead.

be put off by the uninspired name and institutional-green facade of this central, riverfront
cheapie. Dorms are basic, but rooms cheerily modern, with flat-screen TVs. There are also
cheaper rooms with shared bathrooms. Private parking costs Sfr15 a day.
