Capital Bern
Medieval cobbled streets, arcaded boutiques, a dancing clock and 16th-century folk figures
frolicking in fountains: Switzerland's capital, Bern ( Click here ) , does not fit the quintes-
sential 'capital city' image. Indeed, few realise this small town is the capital, situated as it
is in the flat, unassuming middle bit of the country. Yet its unexpectedness, cemented by
the new millennium 'hills' of Renzo Piano's Zentrum Paul Klee ( Click here ) , is precisely
its charm.
