of course). Afterwards, walk it off on beautiful hiking paths .
BASEL TO GRUYÈRES A Swiss Taste
(1) Basel combines old world allure with modern flash. Take in the sweep of the Rhine
River and visit museums like the Fondation Beyeler , which has an incredible art collec-
tion. Afterwards have a fine meal at any of the many restaurants which take their inspira-
tion from across Europe.
Take a train or drive to (2) Augusta Raurica , which preserves the ruins of a large Ro-
man town that originated more than 2000 years ago. From here move on to (3) Bern ,
which is worth a day or more of your time. Admire the ancient Zytglogge , an ancient
iconic clock tower, and then explore the centuries-old streets. Don't miss museums in-
cluding the Zentrum Paul Klee , which exhibits many of the Cubist works by the master.
Train it to (4) Neuchâtel , which sits on the beautiful shores of its vast lake. Go for a
stroll and try the local soft cheese. Wander along the old walls of (5) Murten . Climb the
steps a few extra times as you want to be hungry: first at (6) Broc , where you can enjoy
the famous Cailler chocolate factory and second at (7) Gruyères , which makes one of
the world's most-popular cheeses, a key ingredient of luscious Swiss fondue.
