(1) Lausanne is a lakeside favourite for most visitors, with a medieval centre that is evoc-
ative even by Swiss standards. Start at the Place de la Palud , the beautiful main square,
and head over to the Gothic Cathédrale de Notre Dame . Vault or hurdle over to the
Musée Olympique (the city is home to the International Olympic Committee). Stroll the
lakefront and enjoy some creative modern-European fare for dinner.
On day two, catch a lake boat to (2) Nyon , which dates back to Roman times. Wander
the hilly streets and explore the castle . No matter what the weather, take time for the fab
frozen fare at Gelateria Venezia and La Yogourterie . Board a lake boat for Geneva and
settle back to enjoy the sensational views of the French Alps across Lake Geneva. You
might even see Mont Blanc.
