ADVANCE PLANNING
» Two months before Book hotels in Geneva and Lausanne, which are always popular.
» One month before Start plotting how you'll bounce around the region - when you'll
take the train, float along on a boat or set off on foot.
RESOURCES

GETTING AROUND
» Ferry Sail scenically between Lake Geneva cities, including Geneva and Lausanne. The
best way to get around the region.
» Train Fast and frequent trains link every important city and town in the region. No reser-
vations necessary; just turn up and go.
» Car Not needed unless you want to putter about the tiny villages of the wine region
around Aigle.
» Walk Spectacular shoreline promenades abound, linking towns and sights on the lake.
BE FOREWARNED
» Winter When the rest of Switzerland is revelling in winter sports, things get very quiet
on the shores of Lake Geneva. Lake boats and tours are sharply curtailed or don't sail at all.
The walks on the waterfront, and those among the wineries, can be bitterly cold.
» Weather Even in August, cold winds can wash down from glacier-clad mountains, so be
prepared for anything nature dishes out.
