1 LAKE
It's one of Switzerland's most outstanding landscapes. You immediately see the Jet
d'Eau ( Click here ) , our huge fountain in the middle of the lake. Lake boats ( Click
here ) docked at the lakefront will take you for a cruise with Mont Blanc for a back-
drop. Sit back on a sunny day and enjoy.
2 SHOPPING
We love our shopping in Geneva. If you wander the Rue du Rhône and the Rue de
Rive ( Click here ), you'll see what seems like every famous luxury brand in the world.
Of course, the Swiss ones have huge boutiques. And if you want a watch , we're the
birthplace of high-end watch manufacturing ( Click here ).
3 PEACE & FREEDOM
There are more than 150 international organisations here, and we are world-famous for
our role in diplomacy and mediation. Geneva is the birthplace of the Red Cross and
Red Crescent Movement. You can visit the museum ( Click here ) and see all the in-
credible work the organisation does. The UN is also a huge presence locally.
4 FESTIVALS
We have a ball at L'Escalade ( www.escalade.ch ) when we break candy containers and eat
the contents! It happens on 11 December and everybody parties. In early August, we
have Fêtes de Genève ( www.fetes-de-geneve.ch ) , which is a 10-day blowout. There's
