Nanotechnostructured Catalysts TiO 2 Nanoparticles
for Water Purification

As a very promising material with wide range of applications, TiO 2 has received
intensive interests from researchers and various industries over the last couple of
decades. Figure 3.1 shows that the number of publication on water purification
applications has increased exponentially and exceeded 900 articles in 2007. This
chapter is by no means to be an exhaustive effort in accounting all research work
published on the subject research, rather it provides a general yet fundamental principles
and knowledge of the historical and current development and the opportunity and
challenges of TiO 2 photocatalyst for water purification purposes.
