Having your own wheels is an advantage on the next two legs, allowing you to travel
through the heart of the mountains; public transport means a detour via Aberdeen. Call in
at Glamis Castle , but leave time to visit Balmoral Castle too before overnighting in the
pretty Royal Deeside village of Ballater .
