Inverness & the Highlands Itineraries
These two circular routes - one from Inverness (the
'Highland capital') and one from Fort William (the UK's
'outdoor capital') - showcase the superb scenery and
landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.
INVERNESS TO INVERNESS Monsters, Mountains and
Wildlife
Head south from (1) Inverness on the A82 to legendary Loch Ness, and stop at (2) Drum-
nadrochit to visit the Loch Ness monster exhibitions and Urquhart Castle, and perhaps
take a cruise on the loch. In the afternoon, continue south to (3) Fort Augustus for a stroll
beside the Caledonian Canal, then on to (4) Fort William - detour right on the B8004 be-
fore Spean Bridge for superb views of Ben Nevis.
Begin day two with a short side trip along beautiful Glen Nevis, which curls around the
foot of Britain's highest mountain, then head east on the A86 past Loch Laggan to reach (5)
Newtonmore . After a visit to the Highland Folk Museum, take the quiet B9152 from Kin-
gussie past the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig to reach the resort town of (6) Aviemore
