Getting There & Away
The bus, train and ferry terminals are all grouped conveniently together next to the har-
bour on the southern edge of the bay.
Boat
CalMac ( www.calmac.co.uk ) ferries link Oban with the islands of Mull , Coll , Tiree , Lis-
more , Colonsay , Barra and Lochboisdale (South Uist). Information and reservations
for all CalMac ferry services are available at the ferry terminal ( 01631-562244; Railway
Pier; 9am-6pm Mar-Oct) near the train station. Ferries to the Isle of Kerrera depart from a
separate jetty, about 2 miles southwest of Oban town centre.
Bus
Scottish Citylink ( www.citylink.co.uk ) operates intercity coaches to Oban, while West Coast
Motors ( www.westcoastmotors.co.uk ) runs local and regional services. The bus terminal is
outside the train station.
Glasgow (via Inveraray and Arrochar) £18, three hours, four daily
Fort William (via Appin and Ballachulish) £9.40, 1½ hours, three daily Monday to Saturday
Train
Oban is at the terminus of a scenic route that branches off the West Highland line at Crian-
larich. The train isn't much use for travelling north from Oban − to reach Fort William re-
quires a detour via Crianlarich (3¾ hours). Take the bus instead.
