In-Depth Information
make a circuit of northern Mull, perhaps pausing for a picnic on the sandy beach at (4)
Calgary Bay . Return to Tobermory to stay overnight.
The following day head south then west on a narrow, twisting road around the spectacu-
lar shores of Loch na Keal. Turn right on the road to (5) Fionnphort . It doesn't look far
on the map, but Tobermory to Fionnphort will take you two to three hours, especially if
you stop to soak up the magnificent scenery. Take advantage of an overnight stay in Fion-
nphort by exploring the holy isle of (6) Iona until the last ferry leaves (or you could even
stay the night here), enjoying the peace after the day-trippers have departed.
In the morning, make the long drive towards Craignure (35 miles, mostly on single-
track road; allow an hour and a half), stopping to visit (7) Duart Castle , the seat of Clan
MacLean, before catching a ferry from (8) Craignure to Oban.
