KYLE OF LOCHALSH TO MALLAIG
Over the Sea to
Skye
From
(1) Kyle of Lochalsh
the Skye Bridge leads over the water to the legendary Isle of
Skye; pray for clear weather! Follow signs toward Portree, and at the far end of Broadford
village detour southwest to
(2) Elgol
where a boat trip to
(3) Coruisk
awaits. It'll be after-
noon by the time you return; continue north to the island capital of
(4) Portree
.
Spend your second day on a slow circuit of the
(5) Trotternish Peninsula
to visit the
Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, the Quiraing and the Skye Museum of Island Life, returning
to Portree for the night. On day three head west to
(6) Dunvegan Castle
, and afterwards
take a stroll to the Coral Beaches.
Return south on the A863 via Bracadale, perhaps stopping to tour the
(7) Talisker
Distillery
. Back at Broadford, you have the choice of returning to Kyle of Lochalsh, or
heading south on the A851. If you're still hungry for dramatic scenery, be sure to detour
west on the minor road via
(8) Tarskavaig
for stunning views of the Cuillin Hills and the
Isle of Rum. Be sure to arrive at
(9) Armadale
in time for the ferry to
(10) Mallaig
