SUU RAMSAY, RABBIE'S TRAILBURNERS DRIVER/GUIDE
1 CUILLIN HILLS
Rising from the ground in a dramatic skyline of black volcanic gabbro, these serrated
pinnacles ( Click here ) will test hikers and climbers alike; the aptly named Inaccess-
ible Pinnacle is the pièce de résistance. For those looking for a more leisurely option,
superb boat trips operate from Elgol to Coruisk, where the Cuillin rise spectacularly
from the sea.
2 DUNVEGAN CASTLE
Home of Clan MacLeod, Dunvegan ( Click here ) claims to be the longest occupied
castle in Britain, having had someone in residence since the 13th century. The castle's
array of interesting artefacts, such as the Fairy Flag and Rory Mor's Drinking Horn,
are enough to whet the interest of any clan aficionado. The castle sits on the shores of
Loch Dunvegan, where you'll find seals frequenting the surrounding waters.
3 QUIRAING
This impressive rock formation ( Click here ) affords superb views across a landscape
where time appears to have stood still. The Jurassic scene offers careful walking out to
the pillared columns of the ' Prison', which eerily protrude from the slopes. For the
more agile, there's a scramble up to the ' Table' where, in days of old, the final of the
annual shinty match used to take place.
