THE SPINDRIFT££
( 01333-310573; www.thespindrift.co.uk ; Pittenweem Rd; s/d £60/80; ) Arriving from the
west, there's no need to go further than Anstruther's first house on the left, a redoubt of
Scottish cheer and warm hospitality. The rooms are elegant, classy and extremely com-
fortable - some have views across to Edinburgh and one is like a ship's cabin, courtesy of
the sea captain who once owned the house.

THE BANK££
( 01333-310189; www.thebank-anstruther.co.uk ; 23 High St; s/d £50/100; ) Refitted rooms at
this modernised central pub offer loads of space, big beds and great bathrooms. The build-
ing itself backs onto the river mouth, meaning pleasant views from many of the chambers.
The bar is enticing, with tables out the back, though its proximity means you might be
better off in the lower rooms (7 and 8) at weekends. Prices are usually substantially lower
than we list here.

CRICHTON HOUSE££
( 01333-310219; www.crichtonhouse.com ; High St W; d £70-80; ) You'll spot this B&B on
the right as you approach the centre of town from the west. Sparklingly clean rooms with
fresh fruit and slate-floored bathrooms are complemented by a cheery host and plenty of
breakfast options. Enter via the wooden stairs at the side of the house.

CELLAR RESTAURANT£££
( 01333-310378; www.cellaranstruther.co.uk ; 24 East Green; 2-/3-course set dinner £35/40; lunch
Fri Sat, dinner Tue-Sat) Tucked away in an alley behind the museum, the Cellar is famous for
its seafood and fine wines. Try the local crab, lobster or whatever delicacies they've
brought in that day. Inside it's elegant and upmarket. Advance bookings are essential.

WEE CHIPPY£
(4 Shore St; fish supper £5.50) The Anstruther Fish Bar is one of Britain's best chippies, but
we - and plenty of locals - reckon this one might be even better. The fish is of a very high
quality and there's less of a queue too. Eat your catch by the water.
