Killin
POP 666
A fine base for the Trossachs or Perthshire, this lovely village sits at the western end of
Loch Tay and has a spread-out, relaxed sort of feel, particularly around the scenic Falls of
Dochart , which tumble through the centre. On a sunny day people sprawl over the rocks
by the bridge with a pint or a picnic. Killin offers some fine walking around the town, and
mighty mountains and glens close at hand.

( 01567-820667; www.fairview-killin.co.uk ; Main St; s £32, d £60-70; ) Very cosy rooms, all
with en suite or private bathroom, and very fair prices characterise this handsome and cor-
dial central guest house. There's a pleasant guest lounge, drying room and bike shed. The
name doesn't lie; there are lovely perspectives over the surrounding hills from many of
the rooms.

FALLS OF DOCHART INN££
( 01567-820270; www.falls-of-dochart-inn.co.uk ; mains £10-13; ) In a prime position over-
looking the falls, this is a terrific pub, a snug, atmospheric space with a roaring fire, per-
sonable service and really satisfying, great-value food, ranging from light meals to tasty,
tender steaks and a couple of more advanced creations. The rooms (single/double from
£60/80) are handsome but a few glitches like poor heating let some of them down.
