Scone Palace
This sumptuous stately home ( Click here ) near Perth exudes history from every corniced
nook and cranny. Kenneth MacAilpin, the first king of a united Scotland, was crowned on
this site in AD 838, and Scone became the traditional coronation site of Scottish kings. The
famous Stone of Destiny was stolen from here by the English King Edward I in 1296; it
subsequently became a powerful symbol of Scottish nationhood.
