Royal Deeside
The valley of the River Dee - often called Royal Deeside because of the royal family's
long association with the area - is famed for its salmon fishing, forest walks and grandiose
castles, including the queen's holiday home at Balmoral Castle ( Click here ). Other charms
include the pretty village of Ballater, and the remote outpost of Braemar, home to Scot-
land's most famous Highland games.
