Ancient Sites
When visiting ancient sites it can be difficult to feel a connection with the people who built
them, but Scotland's superb prehistoric remains have an immediate impact. Few better
glimpses of Stone Age life exist than Orkney's Skara Brae ( Click here ) ; the incredible
cairns and chambered tombs found across the islands are equally impressive. Mysterious
standing stones, sturdy towers and richly symbolic Pictish stones make the distant past a
constant presence.
