( 0141-572 0400; www.rabhas.com ; 83 Hutcheson St; r £69-89; ) This Merchant City favourite
is an atmospheric pub-restaurant with four stylish upstairs rooms. They are all quite dis-
tinct and colourful. Room 1 is the best and largest, but all are comfortable, and the loca-
tion is great. The personal touches like fresh flowers, iPod docks, a big welcome and any-
time breakfast make you feel special.

ARTTO££

( 0141-248 2480; www.arttohotel.com ; 37 Hope St; s/d £75/90; ) Right by the train station,
this modish but affordable hotel has soft white, fawn, and burgundy tones in its compact
but attractive rooms above a popular bar and eatery. Large windows make staying at the
front appealing but, though the double glazing does a good job of subduing the street
noise, light sleepers will be happier at the rear. Rates vary widely by the day, and there are
room-only prices available.

PIPERS TRYST HOTEL££

( 0141-353 5551; www.thepipingcentre.co.uk ; 30-34 McPhater St; s/d £50/65; ) The name is no
strategy to lure tartan tourists; this intimate, cosy hotel is in a noble building actually run
by the adjacent bagpiping centre, with all profits going to maintain it. Cheery staff, great
value and a prime city-centre location make this a cut above other places. Of the eight
well-appointed rooms, Nos 6 and 7 are our faves; you won't have far to migrate after a
night of Celtic music and fine single malts in the snug bar-restaurant downstairs.

( 0141-222 2828; www.euro-hostels.co.uk ; 318 Clyde St; dm £17-20, s £29-40, d £36-52; ) With
hundreds of beds, this mammoth hostel is handily close to the station and centre. While it
feels a bit institutional, it has excellent facilities, with en suite dorms with lockers, internet
access, a compact kitchen, breakfast available, and a laundry. Dorms range in size from
four to 14 beds, and price varies on a daily basis. It's very popular with groups and has an
instant social life, with snooker, pool, and a great downstairs bar on-site.
