the work of the Scottish architect Robert Adam, best known for his show-stopping neoclas-
sical designs. Its famous features include a superb oval staircase leading to an opulent cir-
cular drawing room with views of the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig. Everywhere you look
there are classical friezes and roundels in delicate 18th-century plasterwork.
